Side quest Stone Age Coming soon
The Mastery Trail
A riverside clearing where Old Tamsin teaches the long, satisfying climb to mastery: chop, strike and cast your way to level 99 in three crafts.
Ninety-nine winters I've swung an axe, and I still learn something every tree. Care to start counting yours?
What it is
A calm, rhythmic little game about getting good at something. Pick a tree, a rock or a fishing spot in a clearing by the river and work it. Every well-timed swing earns experience, levels bring better tools and grander trees and rocks to work, and every so often a rare find turns up: a bird's nest, a gleaming geode, a message in a bottle.
How to find it
When it arrives, the quest will open in the Stone Age, as soon as a finished Woodcutter's Lodge, Stone Pit or Forager's Camp stands in your city. Old Tamsin will wait beside it under a softly glowing lantern; tap the lantern or Tamsin to read her invitation, then Play or Not now.
How to play
There are three crafts, Woodcutting, Stonecutting and Fishing, each with five places to work that open as your level rises. Tap one to start, then tap anywhere as the closing ring meets the glow: each swing is a miss, a good hit or a perfect one, and hits in a row are worth more. A worked spot rests for a while and grows back.
- Levels run to 99, with milestones along the way and a better tool at each of the first three.
- Now and then a wandering stranger appears with an odd little request: hold a lamp, answer a riddle, find a lost goose. Help out for a reward, or let them wander off; ignoring them costs nothing.
- The chapter's goal is level 30 in any craft. Then Head back to camp finishes the quest, or keep going: reaching 99 in a craft earns the Mastery Mantle and a ceremony at camp.
Relaxed mode
Turn on Relaxed mode from the pause menu or the leaf switch on screen, and every swing lands by itself: sit back and let the river do the work, at a gentler pace. With VoiceOver on, the quest starts relaxed.
Rewards
Your first win unlocks the Mastery Stone, a standing stone carved with ninety-nine notches, to place as decor in your city, plus a one-off gift of resources and a line in your city's chronicle. Levels and finds carry over every time you return.
