Guide

Difficulty

Relaxed, Standard or Challenging: chosen when you found a city, it sets how much things cost and how hard the world pushes back.

Three ways to play

You choose a difficulty when you found a city, and it stays with that city (the pause menu shows it). In the game's own words:

Relaxed
Cheaper buildings, a generous start and gentle events. Just build.
Standard
The intended balance of plenty and pressure.
Challenging
Costlier buildings, a lean start and a world that pushes back.

What it changes

Difficulty scales the price of buildings and upgrades and how long construction and upgrade work take. The numbers in this wiki are for Standard: they are a little lower on Relaxed and a little higher on Challenging.
